In fact, in Vietnam, any time can be a good for travelling, so it's not really a right or wrong time to visit Vietnam as during most month of the year,. Because you will experience both of sunshire and rain in various area here. which means different weather pattern from the north and the south, from mountainous far north to beach.
As we know, vietnam is typically warm and humid, so it pays to imagine of country as three separate destination when reseaching weather for you intended visit and following information which help you getting more clearly.
North Vietnam Weather:
It's included some famous destination which you should not miss such as: Halong bay, Hoa Lu-Tam Coc, Cuc Phuong national park, Mai Chau, Hanoi
Hanoi and North of Vietnam have four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter (Length of each seasons is three month)mostly dry winter from November until april with average temperature 15oC and month of coldest from january to March, sometime it's rain of spring.
Summer is from May to October when it's hot and humid and the regions its highest rainfall and from July to Sept are often wettest month of year. For this time, the weather sometime may be prevent boats sailing in Halong bay because of flooding. So the best time to visit the north of Vietnam is from Sept to December and May to July.

The climate in the northern in Vietnam is devided into two seasons: the dry from October to late March. and the wet seasons from April to Septemper of years. It's will be colder on Dec to Jan, even snowing fall on lunar holiday. So the best time to visit Ha Giang or Sapa should be on Dry Seasons, thus it's very cold, especialy at night. The best trekking condition in sapa from Sep to November and March to May when the average temperature in the day time from 15 -25oC but at night about 10oC.

The central vietnam is located between North and South Vietnam, so it's being influent weather condition both of place. From the mid- january to late april with hot and dry weather, sometime the temperature reach the mid 30oC. During the winter months rainfall increases
Hue is often cooler than Hoi an, especially early in the year.
Qui Nhon not far away from the south Hoi an about 6 hours drive and share a similar weather pattern
At the far south of central, Nha Trang has a longer dry season with high temperature and little rain . The rainy season from October to early December
December to March is the best time to visit Central Highland when conditions usualy is dry and cool

The south of Vietnam has tropical climate with hot, humid condition and it's split into two simple season, wet and dry. The dry season begins in November and end of april . The wet season last from May to early November with the months from June to August receiving the highest rainfall. So December to April is the best time to visit south of Vietnam, there are short downpours during the wet season from May to Remember. The mekong delta can be experience severe flooding during this period which making travel a bit difficulty
In the far south - Phu Quoc island enjoy a monsoon climate with two season wet from late of July to October and dry from November to July. So, doing a tour to visit Phu Quoc island which can be made year around although the best time is during the dry season
Da lat is wet from June to October. From November to May it's far dryer although colder in December and January
