How to obtain a Motorbike Driver's license in Vietnam

Vietnamese driving license are mandatory for all drivers of motor vehicles as well as for riders of motorcycles with a capacity of over 50cc. Non Vietnamese citizens are only permitted to drive in Vietnam if they hold a temporary Vietnamese driver's licence. To convert a UK driving licence or an International Driving Permit into a temporary Vietnamese driver's licence, the applicant must first hold a valid Vietnamese residence permitof at least three month's validity and a current UK driving licence or a valid International Driving Permit. In Hanoi, applications for temporary driver's licences should be directed to
the Office of Traffic & Public Works, 16 Cao Ba Quat Street . In Ho Chi Minh City, applications should be directed to the Office of Transportation, 63 Ly Tu Trong Street, District 1 -Telephone 38223760. To apply for a Vietnamese driving licence (either to drive a motor vehicle or a motorbike) (Admin team will assist with this process) in Hanoi , the applicant should contact the Centre for Automotive Training and Mechanism, 83A Ly Thuong Kiet Street –Telephone 39422715. . In Ho Chi Minh City , applications should be lodged with the Office of Transportation, 63 Ly Tu Trong Street, District 1 –Telephone 38223760.The penalties for driving offences should be clearly understood. For example, driving without a proper licence may involve severe penalties. Experience has shown that such penalties might be as much as a three year jail sentence for driving unlicensed, up to ten years imprisonment for driving unlicensed and causing an accident, and up to twenty years imprisonment for driving unlicensed and causing an accident resulting in death. Actual penalties are, of course, determined by the police and the courts.
To begin, a form requesting a license must be obtained (see below) and filled out by any one of the following: the Vietnamese Embassy, the Consulate General, the Representative Office of International Organization in Vietnam, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (I believe the Embassy of most countries will also help get a licence for their citizens)
WHAT’S REQUIRED: The following submissions are required for a foreigner to get a driver’s license in Vietnam:
A valid passport with 3 month Visa
1 petition (issued form) requesting driver’s license
1 copy (notarized duplicate) of original driver’s license
1 Vietnamese-translated copy (notarized duplicate) of driver’s license
1 copy (duplicate) of passport 3 passport-sized photos
Original copies of passport and driver’s license must be shown when submitting all documents
Open weekdays only.The fee is VND30,000 (US$2) for one license.
THE IMPORTANT PARTS: Only good for the same as your countries license, takes 7 days to get it and you have to get a 3 month visa.
The motorbike driver’s license you will receive is Class A1, valid for bikes up to 175cc and has no expiration date.
